-Description

Breguet is a long-established watch brand founded in 1775 by Abraham-Louis Breguet, the acknowledged genius of the watchmaker.

Abraham-Louis Breguet Breguet invented various mechanisms essential to the wristwatch, as well as design elements such as Breguet hands and Breguet numerals, during the pocket watch era.

He is also known for inventing complications such as the tourbillon and perpetual calendar. About 70% of the mechanisms in modern wristwatches were invented or improved by Abraham-Louis Breguet, who is often described as the 'Leonardo da Vinci of the watchmaking world'.

Abraham-Louis Breguet's watches were admired at all European courts, and his clients included Queen Marie-Antoinette of France and Napoléon Bonaparte.

This watch is a dress watch from 1979, Ref 7070, which combines elements of craftsmanship.

The case is oval in shape with a wide bezel and short lugs, which is characteristic of this design.
Although the design is seen in ladies' watches, this watch was sold as a men's watch.

The case sides are decorated with coin-edged decoration. This is an emblematic decoration of Breguet watches.

The dial is a champagne dial with guilloche engraving. And you can see a brown pattern in the middle. This part is actually tortoiseshell.

Dials made of gems, minerals, and shells are known as rare dials, but I have never seen one made of tortoiseshell.

Since there was no information about this watch, we contacted the Breguet Museum with a photo of the watch, and after having them check the sales ledger in Paris, we found out that the dial was made of tortoiseshell.

Tortoiseshell is made from the shells of sea turtles that live in tropical countries, and is a luxury material used for glasses, brooches, and so on.It has a unique sheen and warmth, and gives a calm impression.

The movement is the hand-wound Cal.839, based on Jaeger-LeCoultre Cal.839 which was born in 1975, an ultra-thin movement with a thickness of 1.84mm.

Its successor, Cal.849, is considered the thinnest hand-wound movement currently in production. In addition to Breguet, Cal.839 was also supplied to Chopard, IWC, and Van Cleef Arpels, which shows its high reliability.
