The ultimate Rolex status watch, the Day-Date. Introduced in 1956, it was the world's first waterproof self-winding chronometer wristwatch that displayed the date and day of the week in full on the dial.
Cases are made exclusively in 18K gold or platinum. It is the only Rolex with a day of the week display, and by limiting the materials used, it has established itself as the company's finest watch.
The Day-Date is also known as the "President's Watch".
Its origin began when it was presented to the 34th President of the United States, Dwight Eisenhower, and the name has been established by the successive presidents since then.
The bracelet, which is made of gold as well as the case, is known as the "President's Bracelet" and has a strong image of "a first-class watch worn by successful people and leaders".
This Ref.1803 is the 3rd generation Day-Date, a vintage model produced from the 1960s to the late 1970s. This example was manufactured around 1968.
The doom shaped plexi crystal can also be said to be a feature of the 4-digit reference Day-Date.
The dial is a silver dial with a sunray finish. Both hands and dial are types without luminous paint.
The dial has changed to a nice ivory color over time.
The indexes at 6 o'clock and 9 o'clock have a distinctive shape with multifaceted cuts, and are called "doorstop dials" because they resemble door stoppers.
The installed movement is a self-winding Cal.1556.
This is a movement installed in the late model of Ref.1803. The difference from the early model is that the frequency has changed from 18,000 bph to 19,800 bph.
Since a quick change is not installed, the day of the week and date are adjusted by moving the long hand back and forth.

About Complete Service
Complete service, sometime called overhaul is the work of disassembling a mechanical product down to its individual parts, cleaning and reassembling it to bring it closer to its new state of performance.
Roughly speaking, the overhaul procedure is as follows.
1. Separate into case and movement
2. Disassemble the movement
3. Inspection and pre-cleaning of wear condition of each part
4. Wash parts with a special machine
5. Lubrication and assembly
6. Waterproof test
7. Final adjustment and running test.
Some movements are made up of hundreds of parts, but it is a very meticulous process of disassembling them one by one, inspecting them all, cleaning them, and reassembling them.
If you don't overhaul, the oil will deteriorate just like a car, and the risk of wear and damage to parts increases, causing a decrease in accuracy and, in severe cases, not working.
There is also the reason that it will be very expensive to replace parts after they are found to be damaged, so we recommend overhauling once every 2-3 years for economical and long-term use.
