The Day-Date is Rolex's ultimate status watch. Introduced in 1956, it was the world's first waterproof self-winding chronometer wristwatch that displayed the date and day of the week in full spelling on the dial.The case is made exclusively from 18K gold or platinum. It is the only Rolex watch with a day of the week display, and by using limited materials, it has established itself as the company's top-of-the-line watch.
The Day Date is also sometimes referred to as the 'President's Watch'. The name originated with the presentation of the watch to Dwight Eisenhower, the 34th President of the United States, and it has since been worn by successive presidents.
Reference 1803 is the third generation Day-Date, a vintage model produced from the 1960s to the late 1970s. This example was manufactured around 1962
The case is made of 18K yellow gold. The color is very calm, and although it is a gold watch, it does not stand out too much.
The dial is a champagne dial with a sunray finish. Although it has some patina for its age, it is in very good taste.
The hands are alpha hands only found on early Day-Date. The indexes are unusual claw-shaped markers. In English, they are called "claw marker", but in Japan they are called "wedge marker" because they are shaped like wedge.
The luminous paint on both the dial and hands has faded and is integrated with the dial and hands.
The condensed design of the dial with one step down around the periphery and the raised plastic crystal are characteristic features of a vintage day date with a four-digit reference.
The installed movement is a self-winding Cal.1555. It is a low-beat movement with a 18,000 bph. It was a movement installed in the early model of Ref.1803, and the later model was equipped with Cal.1556, which has a 19,800 bph.
Since the calendar does not have a quick change function, the day of the week and date can be adjusted by moving the minute hand back and forth.

About Complete Service
Complete service, sometime called overhaul is the work of disassembling a mechanical product down to its individual parts, cleaning and reassembling it to bring it closer to its new state of performance.
Roughly speaking, the overhaul procedure is as follows.
1. Separate into case and movement
2. Disassemble the movement
3. Inspection and pre-cleaning of wear condition of each part
4. Wash parts with a special machine
5. Lubrication and assembly
6. Waterproof test
7. Final adjustment and running test.
Some movements are made up of hundreds of parts, but it is a very meticulous process of disassembling them one by one, inspecting them all, cleaning them, and reassembling them.
If you don't overhaul, the oil will deteriorate just like a car, and the risk of wear and damage to parts increases, causing a decrease in accuracy and, in severe cases, not working.
There is also the reason that it will be very expensive to replace parts after they are found to be damaged, so we recommend overhauling once every 2-3 years for economical and long-term use.
