-Description

The Submariner Ref 5513 is one of Rolex's most famous professional models.

A long-selling model produced for about 30 years from around 1963 to around 1989, various minor changes were made during that time.

As a result, many variations exist for the case, dial and bezel, making it a highly collectible model.

As the Submariner is a watch designed for a harsh environment, it can be recommended as a vintage watch that can be used in everyday life even today.

This example was produced in circa 1970. The dial is a matte dial by SINGER, also known as a 'feet first' as the ft notation comes first.

In Japan, it is also called as a 'lower sub' as the Submariner notation is on the bottom row.

This dial is further classified by English-speaking collectors as a "Serif Dial". It is so called because of the slight serifs on the four corners of the indexes at 6 and 9 o'clock.

Conversely, dials without serifs are distinguished as "Non Serif Dials".

The rimless indexes are moderately aged with tritium luminescence, giving the watch a vintage look and feel.

There is a slight peeling of the luminous paint on the hour hand, but it is in relatively good condition.

The case shows a slight rounding of the lugs, while it is evident that the case has hardly been polished. The reference and serial engravings are still visible.

The bracelet comes with a Oyster folded link bracelet 9315 with 380 end, which are slightly later than this example.

The clasp has been replaced with a grooved clasp for the later Oyster bracelet 93150.

The movement is the self-winding Cal.1520, the successor to the Cal.1530, a highly reliable non-chronometer movement that served the watch for more than 20 years.
